Largest Cinco De Mayo Festival in St. Louis Celebrates Community

Cinco de Mayo St. Louis’ eighth annual Cinco de Mayo festival will be held on Cherokee St. between Nebraska St. and Ohio St. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 11:00 AM till 9:00 PM. The event celebrates the rich Hispanic culture and strong, eclectic community within the Cherokee neighborhood and surrounding south St. Louis area.

Attendees will enjoy an assortment of authentic refreshments, food and wares, live art demonstrations, children’s activities, street performers and a mechanical bull.

New this year: The festival now includes three stages of live music, featuring over 15 local and national acts. South Broadway Athletic Club wrestlers will be competing for titles during a series of Lucha Libre wrestling matches held throughout the day.  Raven Fox from Radiant Studio Works will be projecting architectural video mapping on the historical Cinderella Building. Over 20 new businesses have opened on Cherokee Street in the past year- the festival will highlight the incredible growth of the street.

The People’s Joy Parade presented by Community Arts and Movement Project will begin at its traditional time of 1:11 PM. Each year, the People’s Joy Parade incorporates anything from decorated bike brigades and floats to marching bands and elaborate costumes, and has become a festival highlight and beloved local program to support.  The parade starts at Minnesota & Cherokee at 1:11pm and heads East through Benton Park West, ending at Texas & Cherokee.
About Cinco de Mayo STL: The annual event, which has appeared on and off for the past 20 years, is currently organized and run by a small group of volunteers comprised of Cherokee Street business owners and community leaders.
