Stray Rescue’s Urban Wanderers Art Exhibition, in partnership with Saint Louis University’s Museum of Art, is one of the most creative, unique, and exciting fundraising events of the year. The exhibition consists of over 50 area artists, who have chosen a Stray Rescue dog as inspiration for a work of art. Stray Rescue dogs also put their mark on the art world by creating paintings with their paws, tails, and noses!

Following the extremely successful 2011 Urban Wanderers show, which shattered SLUMA’s opening night attendance record with over 1,400 people, the highly anticipated 2012 exhibition will focus on the survivors of Stray Rescue; the dogs and cats who have suffered and subsequently overcame shocking abuse, neglect, and abandonment to live a deserving life full of comfort and warmth.

The theme throughout the exhibition will be one of hope, showing that the majority of these companion animals survive the very harsh city streets to have the most loving, attentive, gentle, and playful personalities. Rescued shelter dogs enrich the lives of their adopted families and truly seem to know they have been given a second chance.

The focus of the show also has an essential educational component, giving Stray Rescue a platform on which to present the public with facts about the severity of abuse and neglect we see on an almost daily basis. Bringing these hard truths to light is the only way to unite as a caring community and move forward to see a lasting resolution to this epidemic problem.

This year, the exhibition will open on Friday, August 3rd with a reception beginning at 6pm and will run through Sunday, September 16th. The opening includes food, beverages, and, of course, truly inspiring and professional works of art. All donated artwork will be sold via an online auction managed by Stray Rescue, and 100% of the funds raised will go directly to helping homeless dogs and cats.
