Wiener Dog Derby – Soulard Mardi Gras 2/8/15 – 63104
The longest-running dachshund derby in America is back! On February 8, hundreds of dachshunds descend upon Wiener Stadium (also known as Rudy Commons, the brick plaza in front of Soulard Market on Lafayette) to determine the fastest dachshund in all the land.
Wiener dog participants are separated into three divisions based on age: Hot Dog, Ballpark Frank, and Cocktail Wienie. In a series of elimination heats, six dachshunds race down a 30-foot track. These heats take place every seven minutes until the champion has been determined in each division.
ENTER YOUR DACHSUND
If you own a dachshund, you can enter your beloved pet in the respective age category for $10. Register online in advance, or at the park on Sunday, February 8 starting at 10:00 a.m.
WATCH THE DERBY
Non-dachshund owners are welcome, too. Grab your free spot on the bleachers overlooking Wiener Stadium or along the sidelines to get an up-close view of the slowest thirty seconds in all of sports!
