The Old Orchard Merchants Association has announced this summer’s schedule for its Tenth Annual Gazebo Series of free, live concerts and outdoor movies.  The fun-filled, family-friendly event will be held on Friday evenings this summer from June 13 thru July 25, at the Old Orchard Gazebo Park, at Big Bend Boulevard and South Old Orchard.  Music begins at 7 p.m. with the films starting at 9 p.m.

BYOB, that’s blanket or lawn chairs.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Old Orchard area restaurants, including Weber’s Bar and Grill and Serendipity Ice Cream and beverages from Cyrano’s and Garland Wines.  You won’t want to miss the fun in July with three weeks of special theme-nights including Beatle-Mania, Shark Week and Christmas In July.  A complete schedule of musical acts and films is attached.

Friday, June 13

Music: Bible Belt Sinners

Led by Miss Molly Simms, the Sinners find inspiration in Johnny Cash and musical fuel in high-octane rock & roll, from Elvis to the Clash, and back again.  Cuff your Levi’s and pop your collar; grab your partner and get ready to dance!

Movie: Cool Hand Luke – Rated PG

A man refuses to conform to life in a rural prison.  Starring Paul Newman, George Kennedy, and Strother Martin

Friday, June 20

Music: Ransom Note

Ransom Note makes its mark with a big sound that blends classic soul with majestic arena rock. But they aren’t confined to these classifications. They know how to dabble in the margins.

Movie: Batman – Rated PG-13 

The Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being the clownishly homicidal Joker. Starring Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, and Kim Basinger.

Friday, June 27

Music: Javier Mendoza

Consistently voted the top World Music band in the St. Louis area, JMB produce an eclectic mix of Alternative music with Spanish roots.

Movie: What About Bob? – Rated PG

A successful psychotherapist loses his mind after one of his most dependent patients, a highly manipulative obsessive-compulsive narcissist, tracks him down during his family vacation. Starring Bill Murray, Richard Dreyfuss, and Julie Hagerty

Friday, July 11    BEATLE-MANIA

Music: Ticket to the Beatles

The tribute band is not a “dress alike” band, but very interested in recreating the energy and excitement that was The Beatles in their Hamburg and Cavern days. Songs range from “Please Please Me” all the way to “The End.”

Movie: Yellow Submarine – Rated G

The Beatles agree to accompany Captain Fred in his Yellow Submarine and go to Pepperland to free it from the music hating Blue Meanies.  Starring The Beatles, Paul Angelis, and John Clive.

Friday, July 18  SHARK WEEK

Music: North of the Quarter

Start with a little funky roux from the bayou, add a little Memphis blues, a pinch of St. Louis jazz and soul, roll in a bit of Detroit rhythm simmer and then spin it in a spicy way and you get St. Louis’ best party band.

Movie:  Sharknado – Rated PG 13

When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, nature’s deadliest killer rules sea, land, and air as thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace.  Starring Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, and John Heard.

Friday, July 25  CHRISTMAS IN JULY

Music: Anita Rosamond

St. Louis’ finest vocal entertainer who has been performing jazz and pop standards and originals is a fan favorite at events around town.  In celebration of Christmas in July, Anita will sprinkle in several holiday classics into her set.

Movie:  A Christmas Story – Rated PG

Ralphie has to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect gift.  Starring Peter Billingsley, Darren McGavin, and Melinda Dillion.
