The Dogtown Historical Society is hosting the 3rd Annual Dogtown Street Musicians Festival on Saturday, September 15th from noon until 7:00 PM.
Twenty four street musician acts will entertain the festival goers along Tamm Avenue with the main stage located at the intersection of Tamm and Clayton Avenue.
This is the only competitive street musician festival in the United States. Each contestant act plays in front of judges in an effort to win trophies for Best of Show and Best Original Song. The festival goers will vote with their dollar tips and pick the winner of the prestigious People’s Choice Trophy. Each year, the Dogtown Historical Society dedicates its’ festival to a Dogtown entertainment personality and this year is special treat.
This year, the Dogtown Street Musicians Festival is dedicated to the memory of longtime St. Louis TV personality Charlotte Peters. Charlotte, her husband and two children lived on Gregg Avenue in the Dogtown neighborhood and directed many of the great plays at St. James the Greater School. She was a devoted volunteer on neighborhood and parish activities. Her successful afternoon TV show, The Charlotte Peters Show, ran during the fifties and sixties.
Charlotte Peters is survived by her daughter Patricia Schwarz of Kirkwood, Mo. and her son Mike. Mike Peters is a Pulitzer Prize winner political satirist and cartoonist who pens the cartoon Mother Goose and Grimm. Pat and Mike will be in attendance at the festival to receive the festival dedication at the closing ceremonies at 6:00 PM at the main stage.
